River FC Delivers a Powerful Four-Night Theatre Triumph
St David’s Marist Inanda proudly celebrated the resounding success of its original high school drama production, River FC, which concluded an exceptional four-day theatre run marked by energy, authenticity and heartfelt storytelling.
Written by Old Boy Garrick Pagel, River FC was born from a simple yet compelling brief: to explore the dynamics of young men navigating life within a close-knit team environment. What emerged was a gritty, humorous and deeply moving portrayal of English football culture, capturing the camaraderie, tension and pressures synonymous with the “beautiful game.”
The production stood out for its immersive approach to performance. By setting the story in the heart of England, the cast was challenged to master British accents and the nuanced rhythm of UK dialogue, an ambitious creative decision that paid dividends on stage. The result was a polished and believable performance that transported audiences into the world of a fictional football club.
Equally impressive was the set design, which sought to recreate the atmosphere of a live stadium. Despite the logistical challenges involved, the production team successfully brought this vision to life, adding a dynamic visual layer that elevated the overall theatrical experience.
Under the guidance of Director Dr T.C Higgo, the cast and crew embraced a process defined by dedication, collaboration and joy. Over the course of the production, students demonstrated remarkable growth, bringing depth and authenticity to their roles while embodying the spirit of teamwork central to the play itself.
River FC resonated with audiences across all four nights—whether avid football enthusiasts or lovers of compelling drama; leaving a lasting impression of passion, unity and the power of storytelling.
The school extends its congratulations to all involved in delivering a production of such high calibre, and looks forward to many more moments of theatrical excellence in the years to come.
