Home Derby Day Launches the 2026 Season at St David's Marist Inanda
The 2026 winter sports season began with energy and pride as St David's Marist Inanda hosted its first Home Derby Day of the year against St Stithians College, welcoming players, families and supporters to a vibrant morning of school sport.
From the astro to the fields, hockey and rugby fixtures showcased the competitive spirit and camaraderie that define traditional derby encounters between the two schools. Supporters lined the sidelines throughout the day, creating a spirited atmosphere that reflected the strong community behind both teams.
One of the highlights of the afternoon came on the hockey astro, where the St David’s First Team produced an exciting contest that ended in a 2-all draw. Both sides demonstrated skill and determination, with the match remaining finely balanced until the final whistle.
On La Valla, the First XV rugby side delivered a courageous performance against a formidable St Stithians outfit. In a hard-fought encounter marked by physicality and resilience, St David’s battled throughout but ultimately fell 15-20 after a determined effort from the home side.
While results varied across the day, the spirit of sportsmanship and competition was unmistakable. The school extends sincere thanks to the parents, staff, supporters and sponsors whose enthusiasm created such a memorable atmosphere, as well as to the players and staff of St Stithians for contributing to a spirited and respectful derby.
With the first Home Derby Day of the season now complete, St David’s looks ahead to the remainder of the winter fixtures with renewed determination and pride in the performances shown across the campus.
