Chess is another important cultural activity at St David's with the chess club being highly popular and successful. We have been highly placed in the school’s regional championships.
Each year the school undertakes a major drama production. These range in variety from well-known standard musicals, to plays written by our Head of Music and Drama. Recent productions have included, ‘Oliver,’ ‘Bugsy Malone,’ Roald Dahl’s ‘Revolting Rhymes,’ ‘The Wizard of Oz’ and most recently ‘Into the Woods’. These plays are usually performed in conjunction with the girls from St Teresa’s Mercy School in Rosebank.
St David's has always had a long and happy association with the Mini-City Councillors forum. This year (2010) we are once again honoured to have Nicholas Harrison and Daniel Arnot serve as Councillors. In the past ten years, the Prep school has produced four Mini-Mayors, a Deputy Mayor as well as a number of members of Executive Council. The Mini-City Council fulfils a crucial role in our city and our high level of representation bears testimony to the calibre of young men in our school. They are confident, caring members of society.
Music in the Prep School is a growing focus at St David's. Three junior and senior choirs of 50 boys each, participate in many aspects of school life singing at Mass, Assembly and on various other occasions. They have an increasing public commitment too. The choir usually attends a choir camp in which they are trained and prepared for their singing commitments. Despite many hours of hard work, the boys also have great fun.
There are also marimba bands and drumming groups which offer additional avenues for the boys to become involved.
A large number of Prep boys are also involved in the musical soirees each year and have the opportunity to show off their theatrical and musical talents.
