A Successful Season of Summer Sports Draws to a Close

Our Cricketers Enjoy Excellent Results against St Benedict’s

Last Saturday our Cricket Section continued their good form by winning all 8 matches played against St Benedict’s. There were a number of fine individual performances and special mention must be made of Daniel Weisz’s 120 for the U14A team, David Leach’s 5 for 14 in the Under 14 B side and Michael Sherratt’s 89 for the 1st XI. Our 1st XI are also to be congratulated on reaching the Semi-Final of the Standard Bank Twenty 20 Competition.  Their opponents, King Edwards, were the better team on the day and deserved their victory.

3rd XI  Reach Final Of The C Section Of The John Waite Competition

The 3rd XI won through to the final of the C Section of the John Waite Competition.  At time of going to press the match is yet to be played and we trust that the team will have given a good account of themselves in this match.

Inter-House Gala  - Fine Performances and Good Spirit on the Stands

Last Thursday evening we enjoyed a most successful Inter-House Gala.  This is the first time that the event has been held in the evening for some years and we have receive positive feedback in this regard.  The spirit of the boys on the stands supporting their houses was excellent and it was great to have the many parents present who were able to turn out to support their boys.  In the pool there were many fine performances, which reflected the strength of Swimming in the school at present.  Competition was keen and this contributed to the number of school records being broken over the past few weeks.

Age group champions Matthew Hancock (Under 14), Niall Morley (Under 15), Blayne Duffy (Under 16), Dempsey Bailey (Under 17) and Luke Gaffney (Open) are to be congratulated on their achievements.  Blayne Duffy, Dempsey Bailey, Fabien Ruszczynski and Luke Gaffney are to be congratulated on their achieving new school records. College house are to be congratulated on lifting the Inter-House Swimming Trophy.  A full record of results and records is included in the newsletter.

Our boys continue to perform well in Golf, Orienteering and Tennis and our Water Polo 1sts and Under 14As were victorious against St Benedict’s.
