The Saint David's Marist Foundation UK Charity Trust supports the endeavours of the Foundation by funding bursaries, scholarships and projects, as identified by the St David’s Foundation UK Charity Trustees. (UK Charity Commission Registration No:113826 and registered for Gift Aid with HMRC).
SDMF UK Charity
2009 saw the establishment of a UK chapter of the Foundation with significant developments happening in 2010. The Trustees of the UK Trust are: Mike Greeff (Director of the Marist Schools Council), Paul Clare (1982), Svend Littauer (1988), Simon Denny (Foundation Trustee and Old Boy 1994) and Gianpaolo Pera (2000).
In 2010, official registration with the UK Charities Commission was concluded, allowing the St David’s Marist Foundation UK Charity to operate as an official charity and take advantage of the various tax incentives applicable for donors under UK law. The UK Trustees continue to be committed to establishing a successful and vibrant UK chapter which will focus on strengthening the ties between the Marist diaspora, their South African ‘brothers’ and the Foundation.
Paul Clare (Chairman)
Paul is a 1982 Old Boy - since matriculating he has followed a career in International banking which has taken him around the world, he is currently living in London.
He has served on a variety of industry and civic boards and committees. Paul is married to Nichola and they have a young daughter.
Svend matriculated at St Davids in 1988 and is a BCom (Law) and Economic Honours from University of Johannesburg. Having left South Africa in 2000 for the UK he has since held various legal roles.
Gianpaolo matriculated at St David’s in 2000 and has lived in the UK since 2003 holding various roles in the Corporate Finance and Private Equity industry. Gianpaolo is currently the CEO of African Capital Investments, a boutique corporate finance and investments firm focused on Sub-Saharan Africa. Gianpaolo holds BA (Hons) and MsC degrees in Finance and is a qualified Chartered Accountant and Chartered Financial Analyst.
Mike Greeff (ex officio – Director of the Marist Schools Council)
Mike joined St David’s from the business world having run his own business for 8 years in the International Development Finance arena. Mike was involved with St David’s in his roles as a consultant for many years before his appointment as Chief Executive of St David’s. In April 2015 Mike was appointed Director of the Marist Schools Council in South Africa.
Simon Denny (St David's Marist Foundation Vice Chair:South Africa)
Simon is Managing Director and Co-Head of Banking South Africa at Barclays, based in Johannesburg. Simon is responsible for coordinating the Barclays International's business and client activities in South Africa. Prior to joining Barclays, Simon spent over 10 years at Deutsche Bank, where he was the Head of Corporate Finance South Africa and a member of the Executive Committee. Simon matriculated from St David's in 1994 and previously served as a Trustee of the Old Boys' Bursary Fund and on the Committee of the Old Boys' Association. Simon holds BCom, BCom(Hons) and LLB degrees and is a qualified Chartered Accountant. Simon was elected as Vice-Chairman of the Foundation in February 2017.
